It is recommended to limit the time spent in the water to avoid hypothermia. For those not accustomed to cold water, it is better to refrain from swimming. However, if you decide to enter the water, it is advisable to wear a warm wetsuit for protection against the cold. ** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Tistedalselva is a relatively small river in the Østfold area of southeastern Norway. Water temperatures vary markedly through the year: in winter the river is typically close to freezing, about 0–4 °C (32–39 °F); spring temperatures rise to roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as snowmelt and runoff warm the flow; in summer surface temperatures can reach approximately 12–22 °C (54–72 °F) in sheltered stretches and on warm days; and autumn sees a cooling trend to around 6–14 °C (43–57 °F). These figures are approximate and depend on recent weather, flow, shading from vegetation and depth; deeper, faster sections will remain colder than shallow, sun-exposed pools.
Swimming in Tistedalselva is in principle allowed, but whether it is advisable depends on location and conditions. There are no universal prohibitions, yet safety and water quality vary: strong currents, cold temperatures outside summer months, submerged obstacles and variable water quality after heavy rain can make some spots unsafe. For comfortable swimming, late summer is best when surface temperatures are highest. Locally designated bathing areas or well-known, sheltered stretches are the safest choices; always check local guidance, posted signs and recent water-quality information before entering the river.
