*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Serchio, rising in the Tuscan Apennines and flowing toward the Ligurian Sea, shows marked seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter the river is cold, commonly between about 4 and 8 °C (39–46 °F) in mid- to lower reaches, with upper mountain tributaries sometimes a degree or two cooler. Spring brings warming and more variability, roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as snowmelt and rainfall influence flows. In summer the lower and wider stretches can reach a more pleasant 16–24 °C (61–75 °F), while shaded or fast-flowing mountain sections often remain noticeably cooler. Autumn cools the river again to roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F), with abrupt drops after storms or prolonged rainfall.
Swimming in the Serchio does occur, particularly in summer where temperatures in some stretches can be comfortable for bathing. Whether swimming is allowed depends on local rules and conditions: some municipal or managed bathing areas are open to swimmers, while other stretches are restricted for safety, water-quality or conservation reasons. Even where swimming is permitted people should be aware of variable currents, sudden depth changes, submerged hazards and declines in water quality after heavy rain. Local signs, municipal information and common-sense precautions are important when choosing a spot to swim in the Serchio.
