*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The River Salm flows through the Ardennes region in southern Belgium, winding its way through scenic landscapes and valleys, particularly in the province of Luxembourg. Known for its clear and cold mountain-fed waters, the Salm remains cool throughout the year, with water temperatures averaging around 8°C to 12°C (46°F to 54°F) in the colder months and rising to 14°C to 18°C (57°F to 64°F) during summer. While the river’s cool temperatures make it refreshing for a quick dip, extended swimming is less comfortable unless you're accustomed to colder water. The presence of rocky riverbeds, swift currents, and varying depths also means caution is needed.
The Salm is not widely known as a popular swimming spot, largely due to its chilly water temperatures and strong currents. However, some calmer sections of the river near towns like Vielsalm or Salmchâteau may offer opportunities for swimming, particularly in the summer when water levels are more stable. As with most mountain rivers, it’s important to check local conditions, especially after rain, as the water can rise quickly and become dangerous. The river is more popular for other outdoor activities, such as fishing, kayaking, and hiking, thanks to its picturesque surroundings and clear waters.
