*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Kalajoki River, which flows through the town of Kalajoki in North Ostrobothnia before emptying into the Bothnian Bay, provides opportunities for freshwater swimming. Swimming is generally permitted along the accessible shores and at designated public spots, a right supported by Finland's Everyman’s Rights which ensures public access to natural waters. Due to the river's dynamic flow, particularly near its mouth and any rapids, swimmers are advised to use designated beaches where conditions and water quality are monitored for safety.
The water temperature in the Kalajoki River is very cold for most of the year. The river typically freezes over during the cold season, from approximately November to May, with the water under the ice remaining consistently near 0∘C to 4∘C. The only truly viable season for casual swimming is a short window in the summer. During the peak warm month of July, the surface temperature in the calmer sections can warm up to a range of approximately 15∘C to 19∘C. Outside of this brief period, the river’s temperature is significantly lower, primarily attracting those who participate in cold-water or winter swimming.
