** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years

*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Río Gállego, born in the Pyrenees and flowing through Aragon toward the Ebro, is a mountain-fed river whose water temperature reflects altitude, season and flow regime. In winter the water can be very cold, typically around 0–6 °C (32–43 °F) in upper reaches and marginally warmer downstream. In spring, with snowmelt and higher flows, temperatures commonly range from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). Summer brings the warmest conditions, especially in lower, slower stretches, where temperatures may reach roughly 12–22 °C (54–72 °F) though high-altitude sections often remain cooler, near 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). Autumn sees a gradual cooling to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as flows stabilize and air temperatures drop.

Swimming in the Río Gállego is possible in many accessible pools and calmer stretches and is not universally prohibited, but it requires caution. Cold temperatures even in summer can cause cold shock, and rapid variation in flow from snowmelt or reservoir releases creates strong currents and sudden depth changes. Water quality is generally good in upland areas but can vary downstream, so local advisories and signage should be checked. For safe enjoyment choose sheltered, low-current spots, avoid solo swims, and be aware of seasonal flow patterns and official restrictions.
