** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Cephissus (Greek: Κηφισός) in Attica is an urban river whose water temperature varies markedly with season and location. In winter the river commonly cools to roughly 5–12 °C (41–54 °F), reflecting cold nights and higher flows; spring temperatures tend to rise into the 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) band as flows slow and solar warming increases. By summer, shallow, channelized reaches exposed to the sun can warm to about 18–26 °C (64–79 °F), though isolated pools and slow-moving stretches may climb higher on hot days. Autumn typically brings a decline to around 12–20 °C (54–68 °F). These values are approximate averages and can fluctuate with rainfall, upstream releases, and local shading or heat-retaining concrete.
Swimming in the Κηφισός is generally not recommended and in many urban sections effectively prohibited. Much of the river runs through engineered channels, industrial zones and densely built areas where water quality is frequently degraded by urban runoff, occasional sewage inputs and pollution, making it unsafe for recreational immersion. Safety hazards such as strong currents after storms, debris, and variable depth are additional concerns. In less-developed upstream reaches water may look clearer and be physically swimmable, but legal access, water-quality testing and local regulations should be checked before considering entering the river.
