** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Asopos (Ασωπός) River in the Attica-Boeotia border region shows marked seasonal variation in water temperature depending on flow, depth and recent weather. Typical surface temperatures in winter are roughly 8–12 °C (46–54 °F), rising through spring to about 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). In summer, when flows are lowest and insolation highest, shallow stretches can warm to roughly 20–26 °C (68–79 °F), while deeper pools remain cooler. Autumn temperatures generally fall back to the 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) range. These values are approximate; sudden rain, upstream releases or prolonged drought can push temperatures outside these bands, and measurements vary along the river’s course.
Swimming in the Asopos is not universally permitted or recommended. Several stretches have a history of industrial and agricultural pollution and intermittent contamination of surface and groundwater, so local authorities sometimes discourage contact recreation; moreover, uneven banks, hidden currents and private land access make many sections unsafe. In isolated, well‑flowing upstream reaches with clear water, people may swim, but it is prudent to consult recent local water‑quality reports, follow posted signage and respect landowners’ rules before entering the river.
