*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
West Hawk Lake, located in southeastern Manitoba within Whiteshell Provincial Park, is a deep, clear lake formed in a meteor impact crater. Its great depth and rocky surroundings keep the water cooler than most other lakes in the province. In early spring, soon after the ice melts in May, the surface temperature is typically around 39–45°F (4–7°C). By late May and June, it gradually warms to about 52–59°F (11–15°C). During midsummer, from July through August, the surface temperature in shallower bays and near beaches can reach 63–70°F (17–21°C), while deeper parts of the lake remain much colder, often below 55°F (13°C). As autumn approaches, the water cools quickly again, dropping below 57°F (14°C) by late September.
Swimming in West Hawk Lake is allowed and quite popular during the summer months, especially in the designated beach areas within the provincial park. The lake’s clear blue water and scenic forested shoreline create an inviting setting for recreation, though swimmers should be prepared for brisk temperatures even in midsummer. Most people enjoy short swims, paddleboarding, or relaxing near the water rather than spending extended time in the lake. The best swimming conditions occur between late June and early September, when air temperatures are warm and the surface water reaches its most comfortable range.
