*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Twin Buttes Reservoir in Texas experiences typical seasonal variation in surface water temperatures for a West-Central Texas impoundment. In winter the surface commonly cools to roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C). Spring brings a steady warming, with surface readings often ranging from about 55–75°F (13–24°C) as the lake mixes and the sun strengthens. In summer the upper layers frequently reach 75–90°F (24–32°C), and on hot, calm days near-shore temperatures can climb toward the upper end of that scale. During fall the water cools back through the 60–75°F (16–24°C) window as air temperatures decline. Keep in mind that these are surface ranges; deeper water remains colder year-round and daily fluctuations occur with weather and wind.
Swimming at Twin Buttes is generally allowed as the reservoir is used for recreation, but there are important caveats. There are no lifeguards at most sites, and shorelines can have sudden drop-offs, submerged hazards and fluctuating levels tied to water management, so swimmers are expected to exercise caution. Because the reservoir also serves as a water supply and can experience algae blooms or other water-quality advisories, local authorities may restrict or warn against swimming at times; checking current postings or park office guidance before entering the water is advisable.
