** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Trinidad Lake, a reservoir in southern Colorado, experiences marked seasonal shifts in surface water temperature. In summer months surface temperatures typically run about 70–85°F (21–29°C) on warm days, although deeper water remains substantially cooler. Spring and early summer often see surface readings around 45–65°F (7–18°C) as the lake stratifies, while autumn waters cool back into the 50–65°F (10–18°C) range. In winter the surface can approach freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), and parts of the reservoir may ice over depending on weather. Local conditions such as recent rainfall, wind, and reservoir releases can cause noticeable short-term fluctuations, and temperatures below the surface are generally several degrees colder than the top layer.
Swimming at Trinidad Lake is possible but limited by practical and safety considerations rather than by a blanket prohibition. There generally are no lifeguards or formal supervised beaches, so swimming is at visitors’ own risk and subject to seasonal park rules and posted advisories. Boat traffic, changing water levels, cool subsurface temperatures, and occasional algal or water-quality notices can make swimming less suitable at times, so it’s wise to check current park information and signage before entering the water.
