*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sylvenstein Dam, located in the Upper Bavarian Alps, is a popular spot for outdoor activities, including swimming, though it’s important to note that the dam itself is primarily a reservoir. The water temperature in Sylvenstein Lake can vary significantly depending on the season. During the summer months, the water reaches more comfortable swimming temperatures, usually between 18°C to 20°C (64°F to 68°F) in June, and climbing to around 22°C to 24°C (72°F to 75°F) in July and August. These temperatures make swimming in designated areas quite pleasant. However, outside of the summer months, especially in the colder seasons, the water can drop below 10°C (50°F), making it unsuitable for swimming due to the cold and safety concerns.
Although the lake offers a range of recreational activities, swimming is mainly allowed in specific areas to ensure safety due to its dam structure. The surroundings offer opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and scenic walks, with views of the mountains and forests that surround the reservoir. The lake is a great location for water sports like kayaking and windsurfing, but swimmers should be cautious and stay within marked safe areas. While swimming is an option, it’s more common to enjoy the lake from the shore or take part in other water-based activities.
