The Stockelache is a popular natural bathing lake located in Borken, Hessen, in Germany. It is a former open-pit mining lake with a water surface of approximately 8.5 hectares. The lake features a clean, clear water quality with a low nutrient load, which reduces algae growth. The lake has a maximum depth of 17.4 meters and an average depth of about 6.5 meters. These characteristics make it ideal for swimming, as the water quality is regularly tested and remains well within health standards. The beach area includes a 480-meter-long sand beach, water slides, and multiple islands for relaxation, making it a great spot for leisure activities. Water temperature typically starts at around 11°C in early spring, rising to comfortable levels for swimming during the summer months, reaching approximately 19°C in late May.
For swimmers, the Stockelache offers a range of amenities including a designated non-swimmer area, bathing docks, and a supervised swimming area when the weather is favorable.
