*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake of Solomon Slough in South Dakota is a shallow prairie waterbody whose surface temperatures follow the region’s seasonal pattern. In spring, waters are cold, often between about 40 and 60 °F (4–15 °C) as runoff and snowmelt dominate. By summer the slough’s sheltered bays and shallow shelves commonly warm to roughly 68–82 °F (20–28 °C), and in very warm, low-flow periods small areas can reach into the mid-80s °F (around 29–30 °C). Autumn brings cooling back toward the 50–65 °F range (10–18 °C), and in winter the surface usually approaches freezing, often ice-covered at or below 32 °F (0 °C).
Swimming at Lake of Solomon Slough is generally possible during the warm months where public access exists, but it is not the same as a managed municipal beach. Recreational swimming is often allowed unless specifically posted closed, yet swimmers should be mindful of safety: there are typically no lifeguards, water clarity and depth can be variable, submerged vegetation and debris are common, and shallow warm zones can encourage algal blooms that make swimming unsafe. Cold spring temperatures also raise the risk of cold-water shock. Visitors are advised to confirm local access and any advisories before entering the water and to use caution when conditions are uncertain.
