** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sherman Reservoir’s water temperature varies considerably through the year because it is a relatively shallow prairie reservoir that responds quickly to air temperature. In winter the surface often nears freezing, roughly 33–40°F (1–4°C). Spring sees a steady warm-up with waters commonly in the 45–65°F (7–18°C) range as runoff and air temperatures rise. Peak summer surface temperatures frequently fall between about 70–80°F (21–27°C) on warm, calm days, though heat waves can push the surface a few degrees higher. In autumn the reservoir cools back toward 50–65°F (10–18°C) before the onset of winter ice and near-freezing conditions.
Swimming at Sherman Reservoir is generally allowed in shoreline and recreation-area locations, but there are practical and regulatory caveats. Designated swimming areas may lack lifeguards, so swimmers should exercise caution, wear life jackets if uncertainty exists, and be mindful of changing conditions such as wind, boat traffic, and variable depth caused by water-level fluctuations. Water temperature, seasonal algal growth, and local advisories can affect safety and comfort, so checking current conditions and posted notices at the recreation area is recommended before entering the water.
