*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Little Limestone Lake, located in northern Manitoba near Grand Rapids, is a remarkable natural lake known for its striking turquoise color that changes shades with temperature. It is the largest marl lake in the world, meaning its unique hue results from calcium carbonate reacting to shifts in water temperature. Because it lies in a northern region and is spring-fed, the lake remains cool for most of the year. In early spring, when the ice melts in late May or early June, the water temperature is typically around 37–43°F (3–6°C). As summer progresses, the surface warms slowly to about 50–59°F (10–15°C). During midsummer, in July and August, shallower areas may reach 63–68°F (17–20°C) on warm, sunny days before cooling again to below 55°F (13°C) by late September.
Swimming in Little Limestone Lake is allowed but tends to be limited due to the cool water and remote location. The lake’s mineral content makes the water exceptionally clear and soft, offering a unique and visually stunning swimming experience. However, even in summer, temperatures can feel brisk, and swimmers should be prepared for cold conditions. The best time to swim is from late June through early September, when the water is at its warmest and the lake’s signature color displays its most vivid blue-green tones.
