*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Little Lagoon, located in Gulf Shores, Alabama, is a long, shallow, and brackish body of water that runs parallel to the Gulf of Mexico. Its water temperatures are heavily influenced by the adjacent Gulf. During the summer months, from roughly late May through September, the water is very warm, typically ranging from 28∘C to 30∘C (82∘F to 86∘F), making it highly comfortable for swimming. In the winter, the lagoon experiences its coolest temperatures, which generally drop into the range of 16∘C to 20∘C (61∘F to 68∘F), which is cool but often mild compared to inland lakes.
Swimming is generally permitted and encouraged in Little Lagoon, with its calm, shallow waters making it a popular and safe alternative to the turbulent Gulf of Mexico, especially for families. Public access points like Little Lagoon Pass Park even feature a designated, sandy beach area on the lagoon side. The primary reasons swimming is allowed are the lagoon's suitability for recreation and its official Swimming use classification by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. However, as it is an estuary, swimmers should be aware of potential water quality advisories for elevated bacteria levels, which are routinely monitored, and always exercise caution around boat traffic and the current at the pass connecting it to the Gulf.
