Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lauwersmeer is a large lake in the northern part of the Netherlands, located on the border between Friesland and Groningen. It was created in the 1960s after the closure of the Lauwerszee, a former sea inlet, to create more land for agriculture. Today, the lake is a popular destination for outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, and swimming. The water temperature in Lauwersmeer during the summer months typically ranges from 18°C to 22°C (64°F to 72°F), making it suitable for recreational swimming, especially in the designated swimming areas near the shore. The lake’s clean water and scenic environment provide a pleasant setting for swimming and other water activities.
The area around Lauwersmeer is a nature reserve, and swimming is usually encouraged in specific zones where water quality is regularly monitored. Although the lake is relatively safe for swimming, the water can be colder in early summer or autumn, dropping below 15°C (59°F), which may make it less appealing for some swimmers. In winter, the temperature can fall well below 0°C (32°F), which makes swimming impractical. During colder months, the lake is popular with other nature enthusiasts, such as bird watchers, as the area attracts numerous migratory bird species.
