*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
IJsselmeer, the largest freshwater lake in the Netherlands, is located in the northern part of the country. It was created when the Zuiderzee, a former inland sea, was enclosed by the Afsluitdijk in 1932. Today, IJsselmeer is a favorite destination for water sports, including swimming, sailing, and windsurfing. During summer, the water temperature typically ranges from 18°C to 22°C (64°F to 72°F), which makes it comfortable for swimming and other water activities. The lake’s shallow areas warm up relatively quickly, especially along the shores, making these spots popular for swimmers and families.
Designated swimming zones are available around IJsselmeer, especially near towns like Enkhuizen, Lelystad, and Makkum, where the water quality is regularly monitored. In general, IJsselmeer has good water quality, but it’s always advisable to check local advisories before swimming, as occasional algae blooms in warm months or after heavy rainfall can impact water conditions. In winter, the water temperature drops to between 4°C and 8°C (39°F to 46°F), which is quite cold and typically unsuitable for recreational swimming.
