** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Waubesa, a relatively shallow lake in south-central Wisconsin, experiences pronounced seasonal swings in surface temperature. In spring the water commonly ranges from roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake stratifies and warms; by summer surface temperatures often climb into the 70s to low 80s°F (about 21–28°C), and during warm spells can briefly reach the mid‑80s°F (around 29°C) in protected, shallow areas. In the fall the surface cools again, typically falling into the 50s–60s°F (10–20°C) depending on air temperatures, and in winter the lake freezes with near‑surface temperatures close to 32°F (0°C) while the water below the ice remains just above freezing, around the mid‑30s to low‑40s°F (1–5°C). Because Waubesa is shallow, it responds quickly to weather and can be warmer than deeper lakes in summer and cool faster in spring and fall.
Swimming is generally allowed at Lake Waubesa because it is a public recreational water body with boat launches and shoreline access, but conditions determine whether it is advisable. Water quality advisories for harmful algal blooms or elevated bacteria levels can temporarily close or recommend avoiding swimming, and there are few staffed lifeguard beaches so swimmers are usually at their own risk. Boat traffic, submerged obstacles and seasonal cold or ice also affect safety, so checking local advisories and exercising typical water‑safety precautions is recommended before entering the water.
