** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Verret is a relatively shallow, tea‑colored lake in south‑central Louisiana that responds quickly to air temperature, so its surface water warms and cools with the seasons. In winter, typical surface temperatures often sit in the low to mid 50s °F (about 10–13 °C). Spring brings a steady rise into the 60s and lower 70s °F (roughly 16–23 °C). By summer the lake commonly reaches the mid‑70s to upper‑80s °F (about 24–31 °C), and in early fall temperatures usually decline back into the 60s and 70s °F (16–27 °C). Because the lake is shallow with lots of vegetation and tannic staining, it rarely shows strong thermal layering; surface readings reflect general conditions across much of the basin.
Swimming in Lake Verret is possible in the sense that people can enter the water, but it is not a formal public swimming area and is generally less suited to recreational swimming than clearer, designated beach sites. Factors that discourage swimming include murky water, submerged logs and vegetation, occasional algal or bacterial concerns after heavy rains, and the presence of wildlife such as alligators. Visitors are advised to use caution, check local advisories, and prefer established boat launches and fishing areas rather than unsupervised swimming spots.
