Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Conroe is a managed reservoir north of Houston whose surface temperatures vary substantially through the year. In winter the water typically cools to roughly 45–55°F (7–13°C). Spring brings a steady warming trend to about 55–75°F (13–24°C). Peak summer surface temperatures commonly reach the mid-70s to upper-80s°F, roughly 75–88°F (24–31°C), while fall usually sees a decline back into the 60–75°F (16–24°C) band. Temperature can vary by depth, weather patterns, and wind; shallow bays warm more quickly than deeper channels. Occasional cold snaps or prolonged heat can push temperatures outside these ranges, and local conditions such as runoff or algal activity may alter perceived warmth.
Swimming in Lake Conroe is generally permitted and is a common recreational activity, but it is often informal rather than lifeguard‑supervised. Because the lake is a working reservoir used for supply, flood control and boating, some areas are restricted by private property, docks or heavy boat traffic, and there are few dedicated public, lifeguarded beaches. Water quality advisories, strong currents near boat ramps, submerged hazards and occasional algal blooms are reasons to exercise caution. Visitors should choose public parks or designated recreation areas, follow posted rules, and check current advisories before entering the water.
