Location & Local Information
The Hričov Reservoir, located near Žilina in northern Slovakia, is a large artificial lake created mainly for energy production and water regulation. Because of its size and mountain surroundings, the water here tends to stay cooler compared to smaller lowland lakes. In summer, surface temperatures usually rise to around 18–21°C, but windy or rainy weather can keep the water noticeably colder. During spring and autumn, the reservoir remains quite chilly, often below 15°C.
Swimming in the Hričov Reservoir is possible but not its primary purpose, as it is mainly a technical water body. People from nearby areas sometimes come here for a refreshing dip during hot days, especially in calmer bays where the water warms up faster.
