Water Temperature: Daily Trends, Historical Records, and Forecast
✅ As of today, the minimum water temperature is above 82°F (28°C). This is very warm water, which may feel almost hot to most people. Swimming in such conditions is perfect for those seeking relaxation and comfort in the water. These waters are often preferred for relaxation in hot weather, as the water temperature does not cool the body significantly. However, it is important to remember that in such warm waters, caution is necessary, as prolonged exposure without rest can lead to overheating. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. ** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Catahoula Lake is a broad, shallow lake in central Louisiana whose surface temperature follows the warm subtropical climate of the region. In summer months the water commonly warms into the 80s and low 90s °F (about 27–35 °C), with peak surface readings occasionally reaching the mid‑90s °F (around 35 °C) on hot, calm days. During spring and fall the lake is milder, often ranging from the upper 50s to mid‑70s °F (roughly 15–24 °C). Winter temperatures can drop into the 40s and low 50s °F (about 5–12 °C) at times, especially during cold snaps. Because Catahoula is shallow and heavily vegetated, surface temperatures can change quickly with air temperature and sunlight, and thermal stratification is minimal.
Swimming is not commonly practiced at Catahoula Lake and there are no formal public beaches or lifeguarded areas; recreational use tends to focus on fishing, waterfowl hunting, and boating. While there is generally no blanket legal ban on entering the water in many parts, the lake’s marshy bottom, submerged snags, dense aquatic vegetation, variable water clarity, occasional algal growth, and the presence of wildlife such as alligators make swimming inadvisable for safety and health reasons. Local land access restrictions and wildlife management rules can further limit where people may enter the water, so visitors should check with local authorities before attempting to swim.
