*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Buffalo Pound Lake, a long, narrow reservoir in Saskatchewan, is a cold polymictic lake, meaning it is shallow enough to mix easily, but its overall temperature profile is cool. In the extreme continental climate, the lake is ice-covered from November to April, with water temperatures near freezing in the winter, typically ranging from 0∘C to 5∘C (32∘F to 41∘F). During the hot summer months, the surface water warms substantially, with recorded temperatures at the surface peaking around 22∘C (72∘F) and possibly reaching higher ranges in the shallows of the beaches.
Swimming is generally permitted and popular at Buffalo Pound Lake, particularly within Buffalo Pound Provincial Park, where sandy beaches like Elmview and Maple Vale offer direct lake access. However, the lake is nutrient-rich and prone to rapid changes in cyanobacterial (algae) bloom dynamics in the summer, which can create concerns for recreational users and challenges for the water treatment plant. Because of this, the Government of Saskatchewan frequently advises to avoid swimming and in-water activities during water quality advisories when the risk to public health is high. For guaranteed safe swimming, the Provincial Park also offers a heated outdoor swimming pool with sloped accessible entry.
