*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Bluewater Lake in west-central New Mexico is a high-desert reservoir whose surface temperatures tend to stay cooler than lowland lakes. Typical seasonal surface ranges are roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C) in winter, 40–60°F (4–16°C) in spring, 60–75°F (16–24°C) in summer, and 45–65°F (7–18°C) in fall. These figures are approximate; shallow, sunlit areas warm more quickly in summer while deeper parts remain markedly colder. Thermal stratification can occur in warm months, so surface readings may not reflect temperatures a few feet down.
Swimming is generally permitted at Bluewater Lake, but conditions make it a different experience than warm-water beaches. Because the water often remains cool even in summer and there are limited lifeguard or supervised swim facilities, visitors should exercise caution against cold shock and hypothermia and be mindful of boat traffic and occasional water-quality advisories. Many people enjoy wading or brief swims on warm afternoons, but extended immersion is uncomfortable for some and not recommended without proper preparation. Checking local park signage and current conditions before entering the water is advisable.
