*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Bästeträsk is the largest freshwater lake on the island of Gotland and, as a northern temperate inland body of water, its surface temperature varies markedly through the year. In spring (March–May) the water typically ranges from about 2–10 °C (35.6–50 °F) as the lake thaws and slowly warms. Summer (June–August) sees the warmest conditions, often between 15–22 °C (59–71.6 °F), with occasional peaks slightly higher on calm, sunny stretches. In autumn (September–November) temperatures commonly fall to roughly 5–12 °C (41–53.6 °F) and the lake usually approaches or reaches freezing in winter (December–February), when surface temperatures are close to 0–4 °C (32–39.2 °F) and ice cover can occur.
Swimming in Bästeträsk is generally permitted; Sweden’s allemansrätten (right of public access) allows people to reach the shore and bathe unless specific local restrictions are posted. Recreational swimming is most feasible during the short warm season, but swimmers should be mindful of cold-water shock in lower temperatures, variable weather and wind, and the likely absence of lifeguards and facilities. Water quality and access points can vary, so checking local signage and using caution—especially outside summer months—is advisable.
