*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mansfield, a market town in Nottinghamshire, is surrounded by small lakes, ponds, and stretches of the River Maun that reflect the area’s mild Midlands climate. The water in these bodies stays cool throughout the year, with temperatures in winter averaging around 3–5 °C (37–41 °F). In spring, the water warms gradually to about 8–10 °C (46–50 °F), while during summer it can reach 15–18 °C (59–64 °F) in shallower or sunlit areas. Deeper sections and shaded riverside spots remain cooler. By autumn, the temperature typically falls again to around 9–11 °C (48–52 °F), creating conditions that remain fresh and brisk for much of the year.
Swimming in the natural waters around Mansfield is possible but not officially promoted within the town itself, as rivers and ponds can be shallow and muddy. However, open-water swimming is available at managed lakes nearby, such as King’s Mill Reservoir in Sutton-in-Ashfield, where supervision and safety measures are provided. Wetsuits are often recommended outside midsummer. The area offers plenty of opportunities for walking and nature observation along the River Maun and its adjoining parks. Nearby attractions include Sherwood Forest, the historic home of the Robin Hood legend, and Thieves Wood, both popular destinations for outdoor recreation.
