*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Banbridge, a market town in County Down, is situated along the upper reaches of the River Bann, where the water flows fresh and fast through rolling countryside. The river here reflects the cool, temperate climate of Northern Ireland, remaining relatively cold throughout the year. In winter, water temperatures typically stay between 3 and 5°C (37–41°F), while in spring they rise slightly to around 8–10°C (46–50°F). During midsummer, usually in July and August, the upper Bann can reach 14–16°C (57–61°F) in calmer stretches, although shaded areas remain cooler. By early autumn, the river gradually cools again to about 10–12°C (50–54°F), maintaining a refreshing but brisk feel well into October.
Swimming in the River Bann near Banbridge is possible but best suited for experienced wild swimmers who are prepared for cold water and uneven terrain. The upper river is narrow, with rocky sections and occasional strong currents, so caution is needed when entering the water. Many residents instead enjoy paddling or relaxing by the riverbanks during warmer days. The surrounding area offers plenty of scenic walking routes and picnic spots, while attractions such as the nearby Mourne Mountains, Castlewellan Forest Park, and the tranquil Loughbrickland Lake provide additional opportunities for outdoor recreation close to nature.
