*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Luleå in Norrbotten County sits by the Gulf of Bothnia and near many freshwater lakes, where seasonal water temperatures vary widely. In winter the lakes are usually ice-covered and the water beneath the ice is close to 0–1 °C (32–34 °F). Spring thaw brings surface temperatures up to roughly 0–8 °C (32–46 °F) in April–May. During the main bathing season in June–August typical lake surface temperatures are about 12–20 °C (54–68 °F), with warm spells sometimes pushing shallow bays to around 22–24 °C (72–75 °F). In September–October cooling returns, with waters commonly between 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) before freeze-up.
Swimming in lakes around Luleå is permitted and common in summer, with public beaches and maintained bathing spots where water quality is usually monitored. Normal summer swimming is comfortable for many people when temperatures are above about 15 °C (59 °F), but colder waters require caution. In winter regular open-water swimming is not possible where ice is continuous, although winter bathing through ice holes is a practiced activity with safety measures such as ropes, ladders and supervision. Visitors should follow local advisories about water quality, ice thickness and safety equipment; lifeguard coverage varies, so responsible precautions are important.
