** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Boden, in Norrbotten County, is situated on the Lule River and surrounded by small lakes and forested watercourses. Water temperatures in these inland bodies vary strongly by season. In winter most lakes and slower river sections are ice-covered and water just beneath the ice is around 0–1 °C (32–34 °F). During spring thaw temperatures typically rise from about 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) as snowmelt and cold river flows keep water chilly. In summer shallow lakes and sheltered bays warm most, commonly reaching 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) on warm days and occasionally up to about 25 °C (77 °F) in shallow, sun-exposed ponds. Rivers, especially the main current of the Luleälven, remain cooler and more variable than still water.
Swimming in lakes and slower river parts around Boden is generally permitted under the Swedish right of public access, and there are designated bathing spots used in summer. Safety considerations affect whether people choose to swim: river currents can be strong and water in deeper or flowing sections stays cold even in summer, increasing risk of cold-water shock. Ice swimming and winter bathing do occur locally but require precautions. Local authorities post any water quality or safety advisories, and using buoyancy aids or wetsuits is recommended where temperatures are low or currents present.
