** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Zalău, a city in north-western Romania, is crossed by small rivers such as the Zalău and nearby Crasna and is surrounded by a number of ponds, gravel pit lakes and small reservoirs. Water temperatures in these inland bodies follow a continental pattern: in winter surface waters commonly range from about 0 to 4 °C (32 to 39 °F) and can approach freezing in cold spells; spring sees a rise to roughly 6 to 14 °C (43 to 57 °F) as snowmelt and rains warm slowly; summer is when lakes and slow-moving stretches of river warm most, typically between 18 and 26 °C (64 to 79 °F), with shallow impoundments occasionally reaching the high 20s °C (around 77–82 °F) on hot days; autumn cooling returns temperatures to roughly 8 to 16 °C (46 to 61 °F).
Swimming in Zalău’s rivers and lakes is seasonally feasible but not universally recommended or formally regulated in the city itself. During warm months bathing may be physically comfortable when surface temperatures exceed about 20 °C (68 °F), yet local water quality, presence of currents, variable depths, and the absence of lifeguards or official bathing zones often limit safe or sanctioned swimming. Visitors and residents are advised to follow posted signs, use designated recreational sites where available, and consider water-quality information before entering.
