❌ As of today, the minimum water temperature ranges from 41°F (5°C) to 47°F (8°C). This water temperature is still quite low, and swimming in such conditions may only be comfortable for hardened individuals. It is recommended to limit the time spent in the water to avoid hypothermia. For those not accustomed to cold water, it is better to refrain from swimming. However, if you decide to enter the water, it is advisable to wear a warm wetsuit for protection against the cold. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. *** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sondrio (Italian: Sondrio) in Lombardy sits in the Valtellina valley and while the town itself is on the Adda River, the province includes access to alpine lakes such as the northern reaches of Lake Como and smaller bodies like Lake Mezzola. Surface water temperatures in these lakes vary by season: winter commonly sees 4–8 °C (39–46 °F), spring averages about 6–15 °C (43–59 °F) as the water slowly warms, summer surface temperatures typically reach 18–25 °C (64–77 °F) and can climb to around 26–27 °C (79–81 °F) during heat spells, and autumn cools to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F). Deeper layers remain colder year‑round and cold influxes from mountain streams can lower temperatures near inlets.
Swimming is generally allowed and popular in summer at designated beaches and bays along Lake Como and Lake Mezzola, with local municipalities monitoring water quality and posting advisories when necessary. Restrictions or temporary bans can occur after heavy rain or if algal blooms are detected, and some ports and boating areas prohibit bathing for safety. Even in summer, the alpine setting means water can feel brisk and swimmers should be mindful of temperature contrast, currents, and any posted safety guidance.
