*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Bandon, a historic market town in County Cork, lies along the River Bandon, which flows from the Shehy Mountains to Kinsale Harbour. The river’s temperature reflects the mild but changeable climate of southern Ireland. In winter, water temperatures usually range between 5–7°C (41–45°F), while in summer they rise to about 15–18°C (59–64°F). On particularly warm days in July or August, sheltered stretches near the town may briefly reach 19°C (66°F). These moderate variations make the river refreshing year-round, with the most comfortable swimming conditions occurring between June and early September when air temperatures also peak.
Swimming in the River Bandon is allowed, but it should be approached with care, as water levels and currents can change quickly after rain. Locals sometimes swim in calmer sections outside the town, particularly during warm summer evenings. The river is also popular for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing, especially for salmon and trout. Wetsuits are recommended outside midsummer due to the cool water. Bandon’s riverside setting adds to its charm, offering scenic walks and views of stone bridges that date back centuries. Nearby attractions include the Wild Atlantic Way, the coastal town of Kinsale, and the green countryside of West Cork, known for its food, history, and outdoor recreation.
