*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Pyrgos (Πύργος) sits near the Alfeios River and a handful of small lakes and coastal lagoons in Western Greece, where freshwater temperatures follow a clear seasonal pattern. In winter the surface of rivers and shallow lakes typically cools to about 8–12 °C (46–54 °F). During spring temperatures rise to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) as inflows warm and snowmelt diminishes. In summer, shallow lakes and sheltered lagoon areas commonly reach 20–26 °C (68–79 °F), and in quiet, sun-exposed ponds or thermal springs adjacent to places like Kaiafas the water can be at the upper end of that range or slightly warmer. Autumn sees a gradual decline, with waters usually between 16–22 °C (61–72 °F) before winter cooling resumes.
Swimming in freshwater around Pyrgos is possible in calmer lake and lagoon spots and in officially designated river access points, but it is not uniformly permitted across all sites. Restrictions and caution come from variable currents on the Alfeios, water-quality issues after heavy rains (including turbidity and occasional algal blooms), and conservation rules for wetlands. Thermal springs or organized spa areas may have regulated bathing. Swimmers should heed local signs, seasonal advisories, and safety guidance because suitability depends on temperature, flow conditions and water quality at each specific site.
