Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Rheine is a charming city located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, perfectly situated on the banks of the Ems River. The Ems River adds significant scenic beauty and recreational activities to the area, but it's critical to note that this river is not always suitable for swimming due to its varying water temperature and conditions.
The water temperature in the Ems River changes with seasons and weather conditions. It generally stays cold most of the year due to Germany's moderate to cold climate. In warmer months, typically around July and August, the temperature can rise enough to allow for swimming; however, even during the summer, the temperature can fluctuate significantly, and the river may not be warm enough at all times. Furthermore, the temperature differs across the river, with colder areas where the water may be deeper or running faster.
As for swimming, it is not usually recommended in the Ems River in Rheine. The river's current can be too strong at times, and unexpected changes in depth can make swimming hazardous, especially for inexperienced swimmers. In addition, there may be boat traffic which further compromises safety. Therefore, while you might see some locals taking a dip in the river, specifically in the hotter summer months, it is generally advised to only swim in designated areas or in circumstances where safety measures have been taken.
