*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Turku, located in Southwest Finland, offers a few freshwater swimming opportunities in its surrounding lakes and the Aura River (Aurajoki). Swimming is a traditional and common practice, fully permitted along accessible shores and at designated public spots, a right underpinned by Finland's Everyman’s Rights. This principle grants the public freedom of access to natural water bodies for recreational use. Turku maintains several official beaches in inland areas where water quality and safety are regularly monitored by the city's environmental health services throughout the summer bathing season.
The temperature of Turku's inland water bodies follows the clear seasonal progression of Southern Finland. During the winter, typically from November/December to April, the lakes and the slower parts of the river freeze, with sub-ice water temperatures consistently near the density maximum, ranging between 0∘C and 4∘C. The ideal season for comfortable surface swimming is short, peaking in July. During this mid-summer period, surface temperatures in the smaller, shallower lakes, such as those with public beaches (like Ispoinen or Ekvalla), often range between 19∘C and 25∘C in warm weather, generally providing pleasant conditions. Outside of the warm summer, the water is primarily suitable only for dedicated cold-water swimmers.
