*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Grand River, which flows directly through the core of Cambridge, Ontario, is a large river whose water temperature varies significantly with the seasons. In the cold winter months, the river drops to near freezing, typically ranging from 0∘C to 5∘C (32∘F to 41∘F), with ice common in slower sections. During the peak summer season, the surface water can warm to a comfortable range, generally between 19∘C and 24∘C (66∘F to 75∘F), making the water appealing for recreational use.
Swimming directly in the Grand River in Cambridge is strongly discouraged by the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) and the city, due to safety and health hazards. The main concerns are the river's unpredictable and strong currents, particularly near bridges and the numerous dams and weirs, which create dangerous undertows. For safe, sanctioned swimming, the GRCA operates Shade's Mills Conservation Area in Cambridge, which features a sandy beach on a reservoir. While the reservoir beach is unsupervised, the GRCA promotes swimming there, unlike in the main river channel, where all swimming is strictly at one's own risk.
