The Samara River, a left tributary of the Dnieper, flows through the Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions, forming a network of meandering channels, quiet backwaters, and small bays. It is known for its calm current and relatively warm water during the summer months. From late May to early September, the temperature in the Samara usually ranges from 22 to 27°C, and in shallow or slow-flowing sections it can reach up to 28°C. Thanks to its gentle flow and numerous sandy banks, the river is widely used for swimming, especially near settlements such as Pavlohrad, Novomoskovsk, and Pidhorodne.
The water in the Samara tends to be clear in dry, calm weather and slightly turbid after heavy rains. Many areas along the river are surrounded by forested or grassy floodplains, which provide shaded spots ideal for picnics and relaxation. The Samara offers a natural, peaceful atmosphere for summer recreation — a place where people can swim, fish, or simply enjoy the fresh water and quiet countryside landscapes.
