** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Nidelva in Agder County typically shows marked seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter the river is cold, often close to freezing with surface temperatures around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in exposed stretches. During spring, as snowmelt and rain increase flow, temperatures usually rise to roughly 2–12 °C (36–54 °F) depending on location and weather. Summer brings the warmest conditions in sheltered, slow-moving parts of the river and near the estuary, where water commonly reaches about 12–22 °C (54–72 °F) on warm days; during heatwaves shallow bays can be a few degrees warmer. In autumn the river cools again, with typical ranges around 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) before winter sets in.
Swimming in Nidelva is generally possible in many locations and is a popular local activity in summer, but it is not universally permitted everywhere because of safety and management reasons. Water quality is usually good in many stretches, yet can deteriorate after heavy rainfall or near urban runoff, and some sections are affected by strong currents, submerged obstacles or regulated flows from hydro installations. Municipal rules, private property and local signage can restrict access, so swimmers are advised to choose known safe spots, check current conditions and be cautious of cold shock and changing currents even on warm days.
