** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Kelkit River (Kelkit Çayı) in the Gümüşhane region is a mountain-fed watercourse whose temperature is strongly seasonal and influenced by snowmelt, elevation and flow. In winter the river can be very cold, often around 0–6 °C (32–43 °F). During spring, with thaw and higher flows, typical surface temperatures rise to roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). In summer, shallower and slower sections can warm to around 15–22 °C (59–72 °F), though deep or fast-flowing stretches remain noticeably cooler. In autumn temperatures generally fall back toward 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). Local conditions, time of day, and recent precipitation all cause significant short-term variation.
Swimming in Kelkit Çayı is possible in some calmer, shallower spots during the warmest months, but it is not universally recommended or formally managed as a bathing water. Risks include strong currents, cold-water shock from unexpectedly low temperatures, underwater hazards, sudden rises after rain, and variable water quality where runoff or discharges occur. Dams, irrigation works and local restrictions can also limit access in places. For those considering swimming, choosing sheltered, low-flow areas in summer, checking local advice and avoiding the river after heavy rain are prudent measures.
