** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Kalix River (Swedish: Kalixälven) flows through Norrbotten County in northern Sweden and has a marked seasonal cycle in water temperature. In winter the river is often ice-covered and temperatures at the surface hover around 0 °C (32 °F) or slightly below under the ice. During spring thaw temperatures climb from roughly 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) as snowmelt feeds cold runoff. By early summer surface waters typically reach 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), with the warmest late-summer conditions often in the range 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) depending on weather and shallowness of local bays; in unusually warm years isolated spots may approach 20–22 °C (68–72 °F). Autumn brings a steady cooling back toward single digits and freezing conditions.
Swimming in Kalixälven is generally possible and practiced in suitable places during the ice-free months, largely because the river is accessible and used for recreation and the water quality is typically good. However, conditions vary: the river can have strong currents, cold deep channels, and remote stretches without lifeguards, so swimming is less suitable for casual bathing than sheltered lakes or designated beaches. Seasonal ice cover makes winter swimming unsafe without proper equipment and expertise. Local rules or protected-area restrictions can apply, so swimmers should choose sheltered spots, be cautious of currents and temperature shock, and follow any posted guidance.
