The Jizera River, flowing through northern and central Bohemia, is known for its relatively cool and clean waters. In summer, the water temperature usually ranges between 17–21 °C, depending on the weather and the section of the river. Because it originates in higher terrain, the Jizera tends to stay cooler than many lowland rivers, which makes swimming in it refreshing even on the hottest days. In spring and early autumn, the water is often much colder, sometimes only 12–15 °C, limiting bathing mostly to the more resilient swimmers.
Swimming in the Jizera is largely informal, with natural entry points along the banks and in spots near towns and villages. The river has stretches where the current is gentle and suitable for bathing, while other sections are more lively and attract canoeists and kayakers.
