** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Jiu River in south‑western Oltenia, Romania, runs from mountain headwaters through hilly terrain to lowland plains, and its water temperature varies accordingly. In winter the river is cold, typically around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in exposed stretches and slightly warmer in sheltered lowland pools. During spring temperatures rise to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F), influenced by snowmelt and rains. In summer the warmest lowland reaches can register between about 18–25 °C (64–77 °F), occasionally climbing into the low 20s °C (about 70–78 °F) on hot, shallow sections; autumn sees a gradual cooling back toward spring values.
Swimming on the Jiu is practiced informally in summer where currents are gentle and water quality is acceptable, but it is not uniformly managed as an official bathing destination. Local authorities may restrict access in places for safety reasons — strong currents, varying depths, submerged obstacles and the absence of lifeguards pose hazards — and water quality can be affected by agricultural runoff or upstream industrial sources in some stretches. For those considering a swim, summer temperatures in the high teens to mid‑20s °C (mid‑60s to mid‑70s °F) are the most comfortable, while spring, autumn and winter conditions generally make swimming impractical or unsafe.
