*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Dolores River, flowing through southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah, is a scenic and remote river renowned for its rugged canyons and natural beauty. Its water temperature is heavily influenced by snowmelt from the Rocky Mountains, keeping the river cold throughout much of the year. During spring and early summer, when snowmelt is at its peak, water temperatures often range between 40°F and 55°F (4°C–13°C). By late summer, temperatures may rise slightly in slower-moving sections, but the river generally remains cool due to its mountain origins.
Swimming in the Dolores River is not a common activity, largely due to the cold water and the river's wild, unpredictable nature. Strong currents, fluctuating water levels, and the remote, rugged terrain make the river more suitable for kayaking, rafting, and fishing. Adventurers seeking a dip in the river often do so briefly to cool off during summer outings, but prolonged swimming is less practical. For those visiting the area, the Dolores River offers a stunning backdrop for outdoor activities, with its cold waters adding to the sense of untamed wilderness.
