Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Wildgoose Lake, located in northwestern Ontario near Geraldton, is a clear freshwater lake surrounded by forest and rocky shoreline typical of the Canadian Shield. Because of its northern position, the water temperature remains cool for much of the year. In winter, the lake is usually frozen, with surface temperatures near 0 °C (32 °F). During spring, the melting ice and lingering cold air keep the water between 4–8 °C (39–46 °F). By midsummer, the shallow bays and nearshore areas warm up to around 18–22 °C (64–72 °F), while deeper sections of the lake stay much cooler, often below 12 °C (54 °F). In autumn, the temperature drops again to 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) as the weather cools and the surface begins to lose heat rapidly.
Swimming in Wildgoose Lake is generally possible during the warmest months, from late June through early September, when the surface water reaches comfortable levels for recreation. The lake’s water is clean and clear, providing pleasant conditions for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking, although swimmers should be prepared for cooler temperatures even in midseason. Outside of summer, cold water and unpredictable weather make swimming unsafe and uncomfortable. Despite its short swimming season, Wildgoose Lake is appreciated for its tranquil setting and unspoiled natural beauty.
