*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Tobin Lake, located in east-central Saskatchewan near Nipawin, is a large reservoir formed by the E.B. Campbell Dam on the Saskatchewan River. Its size and depth, along with its prairie climate, create noticeable seasonal changes in water temperature. In early spring, after the ice melts in May, the lake remains cold, averaging around 37–43°F (3–6°C). By late May and June, surface temperatures rise gradually to about 52–59°F (11–15°C). During midsummer, from July through August, Tobin Lake reaches its warmest period, with surface temperatures typically between 64–70°F (18–21°C) in shallow areas, while deeper parts stay several degrees cooler. As autumn approaches, the water begins to cool again, dropping below 55°F (13°C) by late September.
Swimming in Tobin Lake is allowed and can be enjoyable during the summer months, particularly near designated beaches and recreation areas. The water is clear and relatively mild in midsummer, offering comfortable conditions for short swims and water sports. However, because the lake is large and exposed, wind and weather can cause sudden temperature shifts and waves, so caution is advised. The best swimming conditions occur between late June and early September, when the air is warm and surface water temperatures are high enough to provide a pleasant and refreshing experience.
