*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sylvan Lake, located in central Alberta between Calgary and Edmonton, is one of the province’s most popular recreational lakes. Its moderate depth and sunny prairie climate allow it to warm up more than many other Alberta lakes. In early spring, the water remains cold, averaging around 39–46°F (4–8°C) as the ice melts. By late May and June, temperatures rise to about 55–63°F (13–17°C), becoming more suitable for boating and short swims. The warmest period occurs in midsummer, from July through August, when surface temperatures typically reach 68–73°F (20–23°C) near the beaches. By late September, as air temperatures drop, the water cools again below 59°F (15°C) heading into autumn.
Swimming in Sylvan Lake is widely enjoyed and officially permitted along its sandy beaches, particularly within Sylvan Lake Provincial Park. The lake’s clear, relatively warm water makes it a prime destination for families and recreational swimmers during summer. Lifeguarded areas, gentle shorelines, and nearby amenities contribute to its popularity. However, deeper sections of the lake remain cooler, so most swimmers prefer the shallower zones close to shore. The best swimming conditions occur from late June through early September, when both air and water temperatures are at their peak, offering comfortable and enjoyable swimming opportunities.
