*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Red Lake, located in northwestern Ontario near the town of the same name, is a large and deep freshwater lake surrounded by boreal forest. The region’s northern latitude gives it a cool climate, and the water temperature reflects this throughout the year. In winter, the lake usually freezes completely, with surface temperatures close to 0 °C (32 °F). During spring, melting ice and snow keep the water very cold, typically between 4–8 °C (39–46 °F). As summer progresses, the surface warms, reaching about 17–22 °C (63–72 °F) in July and August, though deeper areas remain much cooler. By autumn, temperatures fall again to around 8–12 °C (46–54 °F) before ice begins to form again in late fall.
Swimming in Red Lake is possible and permitted during the short northern summer, generally from late June through early September. The lake’s clear water and scenic shoreline offer inviting conditions, but even in midsummer, the water can feel brisk compared to southern Ontario lakes. Most people prefer swimming in shallow bays or near beaches where the water warms faster. Outside the summer season, the cold temperatures and strong winds typical of the region make swimming unsuitable, though boating, canoeing, and fishing remain popular activities on Red Lake.
