*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Winnipeg, located in central Manitoba, is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Canada and plays a key role in the province’s climate and recreation. Because of its northern latitude and large surface area, the lake’s water warms slowly each year. In early spring, after the ice melts in May, temperatures are typically around 37–43°F (3–6°C). By late May and June, surface waters rise to about 50–59°F (10–15°C), becoming more comfortable for boating but still cold for swimming. During midsummer, from July through August, the shallow southern basin can reach 66–72°F (19–22°C), while the deeper northern areas remain cooler, averaging 59–64°F (15–18°C). As autumn approaches, the temperature drops again below 55°F (13°C) by late September.
Swimming in Lake Winnipeg is allowed and widely enjoyed, particularly at popular beaches such as Grand Beach, Victoria Beach, and Winnipeg Beach on the southern shore. These areas warm up faster and have sandy bottoms that create pleasant swimming conditions in summer. However, the lake’s large size means temperatures can vary, and deeper sections stay brisk even in July. The best swimming conditions occur between late June and early September, when both the air and surface water are warmest, offering comfortable recreation and scenic shoreline experiences.
