*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Gosauseen is a stunning alpine lake complex in the Dachstein Salzkammergut region of Austria, known for its breathtaking views of the Dachstein Glacier. The lake consists of three interconnected bodies of water: the Vorderer Gosausee, the Hinterer Gosausee, and the Gosaulacke. The crystal-clear waters of Gosauseen attract outdoor enthusiasts, photographers, and swimmers alike. However, because the lakes are located at a high altitude, the water temperature remains cool throughout the year. During the summer months, the temperature can reach around 16°C to 18°C (60°F to 64°F), which is refreshing but still cold for swimming. The best time to swim is during the warmer months, particularly in July and August when the water is at its warmest.
Swimming is permitted in the Vorderer Gosausee, the most accessible of the three lakes, where there are designated areas for swimmers. The water quality is excellent, making it a great spot for a dip amidst spectacular mountain views. However, given the chilly temperatures, it is advised to swim briefly or take a refreshing plunge rather than prolonged immersion. The surrounding area is perfect for hiking, picnicking, and relaxing by the lakeside, with the majestic Dachstein Mountains towering in the background. Swimmers should be cautious about the cold temperatures, but those who embrace it will enjoy a unique experience in this beautiful alpine setting.
